Blue Carbon 101
Welcome to the revolutionary rabbit hole
Hi there,
If you’re reading this you’re either passionate about climate change, consider yourself an early adopter, or just want to be part of the next big thing. Either way, you’ve come to the right place — The Blue Carbon Collective. Here we’ll post once every few weeks about blue carbon and how it’s currently revolutionizing climate change entirely.
You’ll learn with us, get access to exclusive interviews, and even get exposure to potential investment opportunities in the space. All while saving our planet. Excited yet? Great, let’s begin.
OK, What’s Blue Carbon?
Before we dive into the depths of the blue carbon world, lets quickly define some key terms:
🌳 Carbon Sink: Anything in nature that stores more carbon than it releases.
🟢 Green Carbon: The carbon capture you’re used to hearing about — stored in forests, plants, soil, etc.
⚫ Black Carbon: The bad stuff. Usually made by burning things for energy.
✅ Carbon Offset: A “verified” reduction in carbon emissions by funding a project/initiative positively impacting the environment.
🔵 Blue Carbon: The carbon stored naturally by our planet’s marine and coastal ecosystems — up to 10x faster than regular trees and forests. So impactful to fighting climate change we decided to form an entire collective around it.
Cool, Why Should We Care?
Like it or not, climate change is HAPPENING — and every single corporation, business, and person alive is going to be affected in some form. Every week, more organizations are taking the pledge to “net-zero” carbon dioxide emissions. But the only way they’ll get there is through purchasing carbon offsets/credits issued by the government and other third-party organizations.
The market for these new carbon assets has recently exploded, with some sources predicting a 50 fold increase by the year 2050. The only way to get ahead of this boom is to find something that can meet the offsetting demand of the future…
🌊 Enter Blue Carbon 🌊
Blue carbon has the potential to blow climate change out of the water — literally. By leveraging naturally occurring mangroves, seagrasses, and marshes, science has shown that coastal/marine ecosystems are much better at capturing carbon than others. Up to 10 times better.
We not only need to figure out how to protect these ecosystems, but innovate on how to create new ones. The current carbon-sequestering market is a complete mess, with little accountability on if most funded projects are actually working or not. By investing early in blue carbon initiatives, we have the opportunity to find a scalable solution to climate change.
The goal of this collective is to continue to keep you informed on all things blue carbon, carbon credits, and where we can make a difference with an investment. I’m confident through our community we’ll make a serious impact on one of the world’s biggest issues. If you found this information useful, please share it with a friend. And remember, we are JUST getting started 🔵.
